Tests on HIV and other STis

General information

At the Mann-O-Meter, gay and bisexual men and trans*MSM have the opportunity to have the following tests carried out five times a week:

  • HIV rapid or laboratory test
  • HIV PCR
  • Syphilis rapid or laboratory test
  • HCV rapid test
  • Control vaccination protection hepatitis A and B
  • Smear examination for gonorrhea and chlamydia as well as mycoplasma
  • PrEP check
  • Kidney check

Pre-registration is not necessary.

Simply drop by on Mondays and Tuesdays between 6:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. (deadline 9:15 p.m.) and Wednesday to Friday between 5:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. (deadline 8:15 p.m.).

If there are too many people, we may close the reception earlier and ask you to come back on another day.

Before the test, we ask you to fill out a questionnaire. Questions about your testing behavior, your motivation and your knowledge of routes of infections serve as preparation for advice from one of our test consultants, and help him to respond to you more specifically.
The form is filled out anonymously and without coercion.
We also advise you in English. For refugee men, we offer advice with an interpreter after making an appointment in advance.

If your HIV test is positive, we can proceed with a confirmatory test. You will find out about the result after three to five days. If necessary, we can offer you further advice and support. We will inform you about HIV-focused specialist practices in Berlin and supporting offers from other providers.

If you have any questions, you can call us on +49 30 216 8008 or send an email to info@mann-o-meter.de.

HIV: Several test procedures

HIV rapid and HIV laboratory tests do not test for HIV directly. They detect so-called antibodies, which the body produces only a few weeks after HIV transmission. The period between transmission and detectability is known as the window period. For the laboratory test (4th generation) this period is six weeks long, for the rapid test three months. Only then, an HIV infection can be detected reliably or ruled out with the corresponding test. If there has been a further risk of transmission within this time, you should take another test six weeks or three months later.

The rapid test is not an early detection test. "Quick" does not mean that you can get tested shortly after a risky situation, it rather means that only a few minutes pass between the blood sample being taken and the result being read.

The HIV PCR test, on the other hand, detects the HIV virus directly and can therefore be carried out as early as 11 to 14 days after a risky situation.
